NEUROMUSCULAR JUNCTION

The synaptic transmission between an axon terminal of somatic motor neuron and plasma membrane of skeletal muscle fibre, is called as neuromuscular junction.
The sequences of events occurring in neuromuscular transmission are similar to a synapse except few differences like:

(i) The neurotransmitter releases at the junction is only Acetycholine, which is excitatory in nature.

(ii) Therefore, the post-synaptic potential is always excitatory, therefore, it results in an action potential (also known as end-plate potential)

(iii) the plasma membrane of skeletal muscle fibre is called motor end-plate.
